Real Party: Movie Theme

For my daughter's 6th birthday back in 2012 we planned a small party with a movie theme.  We went to Hollywood Blvd Theater and saw the movie Hotel Transylvania.  Hollywood Blvd Theater was nice because you get a private room before the movie with pizza and drinks and its perfect place to sing to the birthday girl and open presents before the show.  The theater is set up with tables and leather seats.  There the kids got popcorn, candy and a drink to snack on during the movie.  It had to be the easiest party I have ever hosted for my Ella.

The details:

Invites: I made the invites and since I only had to make a few (and invited a parent with their children) I added individual tickets. This theater's birthday package was kind of pricey so it was a good way to control how many guest I would have.

The Favors: I found popcorn plastic buckets at Target's $1.00 section, filled it with microwave popcorn, M&Ms, and Swedish Fish.  Wrapped it up and added a tag and red poka dot ribbon for a final touch.

The Cake: Or rather cupcakes.  I made popcorn cupcakes to go with the theme instead of a cake and displayed them on a cupcake tower.  Super cute and easy to make!  Find the recipe and original source here along with printables for the cupcake wrappers.

Hand Print Dance Teacher Gift

Gift giving season is here and the list is long.  Aside from family, friends, coworkers, we are mommies and we have now added teachers to the list.  I made this for my daughter's dance teacher a few years back.  Makes for a great end of year gift as well.  Easy enough to make, thoughtful and perfect to pair up with a gift card.  Found it originally on Pinterst in pink but my little girl's dance studio's colors are teal/black/white so I made ours to match.

What you need:
  • washable finger paint in color of choice
  • ribbon in color of your choice (optional)
  • white and colored card stock or construction paper (mine is pearly teal),
  • diamond stickers (optional)
  • Frame
How to: Cut out a leotard (see template below) out of the colored card stock (like a one piece bathing suit. Then press the painted hands down as shown in image.  Add ribbon, stickers, or message.  Frame and done.  Easy peasy.

Diva Diaper Baby Baby Shower Gift.

I complain everyday of my life that I just don't have enough time.  So when I was invited to a baby shower this month I could have taken the easy, ever popular, and always appreciated gift-card-way-out.

My creative senses tingled, my fingers twitched, and my hot glue gun screamed "use me".  I couldn't resist any longer and broke down and made this sassy diaper baby girl for a diva-to-be.  These babies are all over Pinterest and even though I made a little boy diaper baby a few months back, I wanted a girl!

Shopping for the perfect items takes a little time but assembly is relativity easy.  I went on YouTube (which is my savior anytime I want to make anything new) and searched Diaper Baby. This is the video tutorial I used. I also recommend picking the outfit first and use it as your color scheme.  It will be easier to buy the rest of the stuff when you know what colors to choose from.

How to make:

What you need:

  • Diapers (I use Target because they are my personal favorite and they are more cost effective).  A small bag (size 1) run you about $6-7.
  • Rubber Bands
  • Baby Outfit.  Best to get a newborn sleeper.
  • Baby Cap or Bow
  • Pacifier
  • Basket (optional)
  • Blanket (optional)
  • Other little baby things (optional)
It's a girl!  I had to layer the extra diapers in the basket first and then put a blanket over them so they are covered. Then put the baby on the blanket.  I positioned her so she is snuggling like a newborn.  I found cute little add ins at Hobby Lobby.  My favorite find is chalk board that will be perfect for monthly photos of the baby and month organizers for all her tiny clothes.  I threw a matching ribbon around the basket and added a quick card to match.  Done.
Here is my baby girl snuggling on her pink blanket.
